Whole-sign vs Placidus houses

When people ask about houses, method and time matter. LifeSense names the house system and shows house fields only when the chart data supports them.

What shows up in the chart

  • House system label, such as whole-sign or Placidus.
  • Ascendant degree when exact time and location fields support it.
  • House cusps or sign-based houses according to the selected method.
  • Planet-to-house placements when the house calculation is available.

Why exact time matters

House placement depends on birth time and location. Unknown-time charts should keep ascendant and house facts unavailable or low-confidence.

The difference as a method label

Whole-sign houses use each sign as a house from the ascendant sign. Placidus calculates cusps from time and location. LifeSense should show which method produced the displayed fields.

What changes in the export

A chart export can include the house method, ascendant, cusps, and planet-house placements when those values are computed.

Use this guide with the calculator

This guide is meant to help you recognize the fields after the chart is calculated, not to replace the calculator.

  • Look for these method labels in the result: Western Astrology, Whole-Sign Houses, Placidus Houses, Ascendant, House Cusps.
  • Before exporting, check the time basis: House placement depends on birth time and location. Unknown-time charts should keep ascendant and house facts unavailable or low-confidence.
  • If the result labels a field unavailable, approximate, or low-confidence, keep that boundary in your notes.
